The Big 'M' (Media)

The media has probably developed into as powerful a weapon as the latest invention of a destructive war missile. It affects everyday lives in such a major way. So what exactly is expected of someone associated with the media? As much as popular media personnel say that they are being deprived of the simplicity of a common man's lifestyle, they should be well aware that this is an inevitable aspect of being in the public eye.

Criticisms, rumours, invasion of privacy are all terms that should be second nature to these personalities. What with the far reach of the current day media, these media personnel might have some ardent fan/admirer in the other end of the globe, mimmicking and following every single part of his or her idol. As such, despite the pressures, a public figure has got to maintain a certain decorum, and a level of professionalism. And if one feels that this aint his/her cup of tea, that person should seriously contemplate about continuing in the media.

What has spurred this issue is the fact that they are loads of immature beings these days, put in the show biz, who are totally incapable of handling the pressures. And these are the very people who keep making the news, till they rot to their last bits. To the tabloids and those who follow such news, it's a momentary sensation, but to the one in question, the one who is at the centre of the whole mess, it's hell. The media is not for the weak hearted. Every itsy bitsy news has to be taken in good stride. I was watching this Jodi No. 1, a TV (reality) show over the weekend. It's basically a dance competition between popular TV stars in India, telecasted by Vijay TV. What caught my attention the most is the immaturity of one of the participants, who is an anchor for a variety program. She was not able to control her emotions. She was such a child, she could not even articulate her arguments properly to the judges, at the end of her performance, cos her eyes were brimming with tears. Basically, her complaint was that her partner on the program didnt co-operate with her. I found the idea that they, not being able to settle their differences off the camera, so funny. The whole issue was being blown out of proportion. I mean, she is literally too young (prob ony 15-16 yrs of age), to handle the vastness of the media. And the whole thing was way too dramatic. It's just the startof the new season of this show, and the hype has already begun. One has to wait to see wat more drama is in store for the audience, this season.

The bitter truth is that the media is out to devour you, as long as you are part of it. Both physical and mental strength are required to survive in that ocean. So, my best wishes to all those out there!!!

Now the whole image of a bubbly, hip anchor has done to the drains with such display of emotions. I've not watched show that she anchors for, but this definitely becomes bad publicity. But the again, the media works in such a weird way that people might tune in to her program....she'd have gained sympathy votes and audience (thos definitely not me)

I'm not sure how true this is....but I've heard that Sun tv/ Vijay tv are trying to 'copy' the reality show likeness of English channels and actually create drama. I've seen similar dramas on Mastana mastana on Sun tv too and it seems just plain silly the way those contestants fight.
